Your Chauffer will pick you at the Airport and transfer to your hotel in Negombo which is 6 km from the Bandaranayake Internationl Airport. Negombo is a Fishing Village located in the west coast of the island approximately 40 km from Colombo. Evening you are free to do a familiarization ride in the Negombo town covering the city, small fishing villages and the Fish market. Back to your hotel and get ready to your cycling expedition on the following day.
We start our days ride after an early breakfast. Our today’s retreat will be Kithulgala which is a small village located in the western side of the capital hills. The Academy Award-winning "The Bridge on the River Kwai" was filmed on the Kelani River near Kitulgala and this is the only place in the country where we could do White Water Rafting Tours. Passing Minuwangoda and Nittambuwa, we will arrive at another small town called Ruwanwella which means “Gold Sands”. From Ruwanwella we paddle to Karawanella from where the ascend starts. Being an A grade road, there will be some traffic, (but less comparing to the other A grade roads), the day’s hardest ride will be this 24 km stretch up to Kitulgala . At Kithulgala we will take part in another thrilling event, white water rafting in Kelani River. In the evening we will ride to Beli Lena Cave, in which the 12,000 year old skeletal remains of the prehistoric ‘Balangoda man’ (Homesepiens Balangodensis) have been found. Today’s accommodation will be in our campsite located in the bank of the Kelani River.
After breakfast, we will get into our vehicle and drive up to Hatton from where we start the day’s ride to Horton Plains via Ambewela. Riding along the tea plantations and small towns you will be able to experience different people with different lifestyles. Do not forget to stop at Devon & St.Claire’s Water Falls in Thalawakela where you can visit a tea factory and taste a Cup of Sri Lankan Tea. Paddling towards Nuwara Eliya, you will encounter the Up country railway track at Thalawakele and Nanuoya.
We will proceed to Ambewela where we will get into our vehicle and drive up to Horton Plains. Horton Plains is the highest plateau in Sri Lanka and also a National Park. Being the home for some endemic flora & fauna species, Horton Plains offers its visitors a remarkable experience with World’s End and the Baker’s Falls. On completion we will ride to Nuwara Eliya if the time is permits. Or we will drive to Nuwara Eliya and check in at your hotel. Evening you are free to do a ride/walk around the city. Visit to the Victoria Park in the middle of the city or riding a horse in Nuwara Eliya depending onyour choice. Overnight stay at a Hotel in Nuwara Eliya.
From today the descend starts. We will start descending after few kilometers ride. Along the day’s ride, you will encounter more tea plantations and tea factories. The Ramboda Pass and some fascinating waterfalls will be the highlights on your ride from Nuwara Eliya to Kandy. Kandy is the Capital of the hill country also the Last Kingdom of the country. The most valuable and famous place in Kandy is the Temple of Sacred Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha. The Sacred Tooth Relic (Dālada) of the Buddha is the most venerated object of worship for Buddhists and its present house, the Temple of the Tooth Relic (Dālada Māligāwa) in Kandy, is considered the foremost sacred place of worship in the Buddhist world.
Evening we will do a city tour in our vehicle or if you are keen in visiting the city in the bicycle, you are free to do so. A ride around the Bogambara Lake which is in the middle of the city, will make you happy while visiting a cultural show in the evening will make your stay in Kandy a remarkable. The total ride from Nuwara Eliya to Kandy will be approximately 77 km.
Today our destination will be Dambulla, which is famous for the Cave Temple with 5 caves and 160 Statues which were built in 1st century BC. While we are on ride, we will stop at Naula to visit a Spice Garden. Upon arrival at Dambulla we will visit the cave temple. In the evening we will ride along the bank of the Kandalama Lake, which is another highlight in Dambulla. Overnight stay at your hotel in Dambulla.
In the morning, you will be transferred to Sigiriya by vehicle. We will climb Sigiriya Rock Fortress to witness the ancient glories in the 5th century AD. It was built by King Kasyapa as his kingdom. After his death this was used as a monastery till 14th century. On completion we will ride to Polonnaruwa the 2nd kingdom of Sri Lanka. We will visit the historical sites in Polonnaruwa in the bicycles. Gal Vihara, Lankathilake Temple, lotus ponds, Parakrama Samudra, Thuparama & museum are some highlights of your visit in Polonnaruwa. We will start the final session of the day from Polonnaruwa to Giritale from where we will get in to our vehicle and drive to Habarana. Overnight stay at Habarana.
After the breakfast we will head to the east coast. The terrain will be mostly the flat where you will not have to use your best riding skills. Going off the road will create more opportunities to experience the lifestyle of local people. Check in at the Hotel. Evening at leisure or you are free to ride in the city. Enjoy a hearty sea food dinner and overnight stay at your hotel in Trincomalee.
Leave for Colombo after the breakfast. Today we will be travelling in our vehicle. On our way to Colombo we will visit the Elephant Orphanage in Pinnawala. Check in at your hotel in the capital city. Evening you are free to visit the city, visit to a casino or a night club in the city where you can enjoy the night life of the city. Overnight stay at Colombo.
Leave for Airport for Departure.
